Child slipping and tripping accident compensation

Of all accident compensations claims those involving slipping or tripping are the most common. More often than not, if your children slip or trip, they may escape with just minor bruises, grazes or cuts but on occasion just one slip is capable of causing your child serious injury. There are so many places accidents can occur, due to a lack of regard for health and safety regulations, and these can result in:

  • Back and spinal injuries
  • Deep lacerations
  • Broken bones
  • Sprains
  • Head injuries
  • Concussion
  • Paralysis

In some cases such accidents may require your children to undergo corrective surgery leaving them permanently scarred or with ongoing pain from injuries they have sustained.

Footpath, road and pavement accidents

It is the responsibility of local authorities to ensure the roads, pavements and footpaths in their districts are safe for public use and similar rules apply to occupiers or owners of premises where floors are so uneven as to potentially cause slipping or tripping. Accidents can also happen when your child is using steps or ramps to access a building.

Accidents on Public and Commercial premises

Children are prone to accidents in places where the floors are slippery (perhaps due to having been recently washed or due to spillage), where floor coverings such as carpets and vinyl are frayed and worn or where there are obstructions. Commonly accidents occur in the following public and commercial premises among others:

  • Supermarkets
  • Cafes
  • Restaurants
  • Shops
  • Offices
  • Playgrounds
  • Sports & Leisure Centres

If your child has a slipping or tripping accident on Public premises resulting in injury, an accident compensation claim would be lodged against the Local Authority.

It's perfectly normal for children to slip, trip or fall over multiple times during the course of their lives, as indeed many of us do; but when these accidents occur and result in injury due to someone else being negligent or careless in relation to health and safety, your child may be entitled to make an accident compensation claim.
